Respite & short stays
A safe, comfortable break for you, and a chance for your family and carers to rest and recharge. Short-term respite (STR) was previously called short-term accommodation (STA).

What we can help with
Short stays
A night, a weekend or a longer break in supported accommodation.
In-home respite
A support worker stays with you at home while carers take a break.
Planned breaks
Book ahead for holidays, family events or regular weekends.
Emergency support
Help at short notice if your usual carer is unwell or away.
Activities
Outings and activities, so your stay feels like a break for you too.
Continuity
The same familiar workers where possible, and your routines kept.
How it works
Short-term respite (STR) is usually funded from the Core supports: Assistance with daily life part of your NDIS plan. It’s generally funded for up to 28 days a year, and no more than 14 days in a row.
- Overnight, weekend and longer stays
- In-home or away from home
- Emergency respite when possible
- Your routines and preferences followed
Every plan is different. We’ll talk through your goals, check your NDIS plan and explain the costs before anything starts.
Common questions
How far ahead should I book?
As early as you can, especially for school holidays. We’ll always try to help at short notice too.
Can I bring my own things?
Yes. Bring anything that helps you feel at home, from your pillow to your favourite games.
Will my routines be followed?
Yes. We’ll go through your routines, medication and care plans before your stay.
